London DST Convention Cancelled

In a surprise announcement on their official social media accounts today, Destination Star Trek announced that there will be no event in London this year. Instead, they have stated that the Destination Star Trek Germany that runs from 23rd to 25th September in Westfalenhallen, Dortmund will be their only official European convention to take place in 2022. The statement declared, “We have decided to run just one big Destination Star Trek event this year.“
Destination Star Trek is a big event on many Trek fans’ calendars, and this news will be disappointing to those who were hoping to attend the UK event, though DST state that many of the guests originally due to attend the con will instead be appearing at the London Film and Comic-Con, taking place from 8th to 10th July at Olympia, London, where they are also expected to host a tribute to Star Trek.

It is not known at present how this will affect those with tickets for this year’s cancelled event, nor what effect this decision will have on DST conventions in Europe going forward, but as soon as we are made aware of any updates, we here at WarpFactorTrek will keep you updated.

DK Sellers has been a fan of Star Trek since his parents sat him in front of the TV, as a child, to watch the TOS episode “The Changeling”, little realising the consequences of their actions. He is a freelance writer, author and co-host of the Hit or Miss: Star Trek and Silver Screen podcasts.
Yet another misstep for the publicity department of Star Trek. After pulling the series from other streaming services and delaying their release for the as yet unlaunched Paramount + in the UK and Europe, it feels like they’re not giving enough attention to the fanbase on your side of the Atlantic. I dearly hope they’ll come to realize how taking European fans for granted will hurt the show for years to come.
